Embedded – Cast in Place Stone Setting
Our Embedded: Cast In Place Ring Making Workshop is an intensive two-day jewellery making course in which students will learn the process of lost wax carving combined with cast-in-place stone setting.
This specialised technique involves embedding gemstones directly into the wax before casting, allowing the stones to become permanently set in the metal during the casting process.
Students will experiment with a variety of wax working methods, design and carve a wax ring (or another small piece after discussion with the tutor), and finish their metal casting into a wearable piece.

ABOUT THE COURSE
On day one, students will be introduced to the cast-in-place process and guided through both technical and creative wax modelling techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with different waxes and embed stones in your wax model, which will then be sent to a commercial caster for transformation into metal.
On day two, you’ll learn how to clean up your cast piece, remove the sprue, emery and polish your finished design ready to wear. Along the way, your tutor will share tips and tricks for embedding stones and developing more advanced wax carving skills.
Best of all, this workshop provides plenty of time for experimentation. Our aim is to equip you with the confidence and techniques to continue developing your wax carving and stone-setting practice, and prepare you for further study in advanced casting or setting classes.
