ABOUT THE COURSE

Join us in our light-filled studio workshop to forget about the world and focus on your creativity. Our Art for your Ears workshop will teach you traditional silver smithy skills whilst making a pair of perfectly matched studs or swinging earrings. Unless you want to go asymmetrical that is?! Whatever your vision, we will help you bring it to life, so that you have a dreamy new pair of bijou swinging from your lobes by the day’s end.

This one-day jewellery making course makes a lovely gift and is a great introduction for students who would like to see if they enjoy working with metal. It’s perfect for those who would like to make earrings for themselves, for a partner or friend.

What you will learn

During this one day workshop students will be introduced to the jewellery artists bench and jewellers foundation tools and processes throughout the day. You will learn to saw pierce using a jeweller’s saw, how to emboss and stamp your metal for beautiful decorative effects. You will learn how to form and dome your metal and polish it to perfection. The option of additional non-metal materials will be available to you. You can learn how to compliment your earring designs with a special patination process. And of course, you will learn how to solder ear posts and/or make earring wires to perfectly suit your design. Skills learned are transferable to other jewellery designs such as rings or pendants.

What You'll Learn

Our Tutors

Why choose a jewellery making course at SquarePeg Studios?

Our courses are taught by highly experienced and passionate teachers who are practising contemporary jewellers. This is the closest to an accredited course – without the assignments, stress and cost – that Sydney has to offer. Students not only gain the satisfaction of designing and hand-making their own piece of jewellery they also have the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at a contemporary professional jewellery studio while learning great new skills in jewellery techniques and design.

I had a great time with tutor Liz who showed me the principles of jewelry making and all tools and techniques to make my ideas come true. Definitely will be back for more information about the alchemy.
